APPEARANCE

  • Partially charred or burnt friction material (outside edges appear whitish)

REASONS

  • Prolonged excessive pad heat from heavy use or pulling the brake pad over the disc

EFFECTS

  • Decreased initial effectiveness of the brake
  • Excessive material wear and unusual wear
  • The material breaks easily, flakes and cracks

SOLUTION

  • Investigate the cause of the brake pad overheating.
  • If the damage is not excessive, the pads will be effective under normal use.
  • If the damage is too great, replace the brake pad assembly.
